United Nations- Tyler Bloeser 2nd hour

I represent the United Nations. Apparently, since we had troops in Rwanda everybody says it’s our fault the genocide happened. What I don’t understand is why nobody is blaming Belgium for leaving the mess for us to clean up. They stated in the debate “we didn’t expect that you wouldn’t be able to fix the problem.” Does that make it okay? That just saying you intentionally left the country, thinking that the United Nations would pick up your mess and you wouldn’t have to do anything.
Yes, the United Nations did send in troops and take them back out, but what the other countries don’t understand is that we can only do so much as peace keepers. Our troops were sent in to keep peace by keeping guard of rebel locations. We were not there to kill civilians and it was clearly stated in our mandate. There is a difference between keeping peace, and making it. That’s something I think few of the other groups fully understand.
The Interahamwe are a perfect example of that statement. They claim they were “brainwashed” and told if they hadn’t killed Tutsi’s their families would be killed. Yet in the article they had, there was a sentenced circled in pen saying that the Interahamwe were the one’s giving other people the choice of “kill or be killed.” Even after we had been showed the article, and clearly noted that it was circled, they claimed they “hadn’t seen it.” How can we trust anything the Interahamwe say when they lie to us about their own articles?
Then of course there is still Belgium. They claim the genocide was not their fault even though they were the ones who left ID tags for all the Hutu and Tutsi citizens, and gave the Tutsi’s extra power and benefits. The best part of that is it was because they looked more “European.” Yeah, and people still blame us for what happened in Rwanda. If you’re going to blame someone, you should all take another look and accept what really happened.

  1. I am assuming when you are talking about Belgium you are saying that they are segregating by being racist. Honestly you need to check yourself before you wreck yourself. The reason the UN left Rwanda is because all the white people were safe, and you didn't care about the black people. So you are in absoultly no position to call someone else out on being racist.

  2. We didn't care about the black people? Oh really? http://www.savoheleta.com/Leaving_Rwandans_to_Die_by_Savo_Heleta.pdf
    the atricle states this.
"The Tutsi were seen as 'almost white,' while the Hutus were seen as another African 'tribe.'
Don't try to blame the United Nations for being racist when your racism sparked the main conflict.

  4. Go look at www.history.com/topics/rwandan-genocide part called genocide second paragraph first and second sentence.

Our racism didn't spark the conflict we were forced to kill by the government sponsored radio stations and local officals.
