Interahamwe
The interahamwe is not at fault for the genocide, we were forced to kill people or else our families would be killed. The media had been telling us to “cut down the tall trees”. The interahamwe formed because of the actions from the other countries. I believe the French are to blame for the genocide because in an article by the free republic it says, “The behavior of the French was worse than that of the Belgians. Eager to become the pivotal power in the Great Lakes Region, they aided and abetted the massacres at every turn.” Farther into the article it says, “France had Realized- and instrumentalised- the key fact about modern Africa, which is that the nationalist elites have failed to build modern states, and mainly aspire to get money offshore and bring up their children in Paris, Geneva, or New York. In the World of the dissolving African state, an arms shipment here or there, two hundred well-trained mercenaries or a million dollars for this or that politician can tip the balance in territories rich in gold, diamonds, oil, or uranium. It’s absurdly cheap.” The French never cared about the safety of these people, and thought if they took out a majority of the people that it would be easier to get the land they wanted.
I also blame the U.S. because within sixteen days of the genocide Clinton and his senior officials decided to use the word genocide privately. They knew if the word got out about the genocide and how the President knew, Americans would make the President send in Troops. In an article from the United Human Rights Council it says, “American officials shunned the g-word, fearing that it would cause the demands for intervention. Free Republic says, “Herman Cohen, Clinton’s assistant secretary of state for Africa, who was so busy in Rwanda in 1994, today has a multi-million contract to tart up the image of Mugabe.
I believe the RPF is at blame, an eye witness reported, “ I saw the RPF soldiers bringing bodies in trucks at night and throwing them in toilets at Mwogo, near where they had dug their trenches. They brought men already wounded with their arms tied behind their backs.” It also says, “The [RPF] soldiers killed without regard to age, sex, or ethnic group.”
I believe the NRMD is at fault for the genocide because in an article from the History. Com(http://www.history.com/topics/rwandan-genocide under part called Genocide, second sentence), “The mass killings in Rwanda quickly spread from Kigali to the rest of the country, with some 800,000 people slaughtered over the next three months. During this period, local officials and government-sponsored radio stations called on ordinary Rwandan civilians to murder their neighbors.”
I think my group did a great job defending our case of being the interahamwe. We tried to put our point across as best as we could. Although I believe not everyone fully comprehended how the Hutus were pushed up a wall and either had to kill or be killed.

You could have protected your children by using more peaceful ways.
ReplyDeleteI agree it is the US fault because they knew about the genocide and were one of the most powerful nations on earth and didnt do anything to stop it.
ReplyDeleteMonica- like what? planting flowers as a peace offering? We were told the Tutsis were killing people. you don't bring a knife to a gun fight.
ReplyDeleteWow! You really did your research. I especially agree with the parts about France- they had no business being in Rwanda anyway!
