In conclusion to the debate, I think the genocide was not completely the Interahamwes fault. Even though we did do most of the killing, it was what we thought was self protection. By this I mean we were told by the NRMD that "Tutsi cockroaches" were coming to kill us and our families. Any good man would do anything to protect his family, even the act of murder.
The NRMD said that the RPF took over their radio broadcasting stations. If this was true why would the RPF tell us to "cut the tall trees" a refernce made to kill the Tutsi's when the RPF is a Tutsi dominated orginaization. I also put blame on the U.N. and Belgium. The U.N. pulled out 90% of their troops after ten Belgium soldiers had died. The best "peace keeping" organization in the world left the situation worse than when it started. They said it wasn't their mess to clean up, but isn't that what the U.N. is supposed to do? Clean up or help situations get better is their job. The blame I put on Belgium is from the facct that they gave the Tutsi's power in the first place. sure it might have been a good way to control the population but it did lead to a 800,000+ genocide to occur.
In my final statement I hope you can see why the blame is not all the Interahamwes fault, that we like everybody else had a part in it.
I can see why you would want to protect yourself, but would you really go against all your morals? The Interhomwe slaughtered even helpless children that took up arms!
