I represent the United States and we are not responsible for the Rwanda genocide. The Belgium's came in and started everything. The Hutus and Tutsis didn’t like each other but they tolerated each other. The Belgium's made matters worse. They favored the Tutsis and angered the Hutus sparking the genocide.
The United States were accused of standing back and doing nothing along with limiting our assistance policies so we did not have to help as much. We were actually just trying to prevent what had happened in Somalia just a year before when we had gotten involved and made matters worse as the French did in the Rwandan genocide. What we did do was assist the United Nations’ peace organizations. We donated money and attempted to send in the air craft carriers which unfortunately were unable to arrive on time because of a political collapse in Rwanda. We also helped after the genocide. We evacuated citizens and sent supplies and troops over to help.
We could have probably done a bit more but our government was also in disarray so we were having trouble getting a plan together. The Pentagon was against sending any help to Rwanda and in order to send any military personnel. That is why the United States are not responsible for the Rwanda genocide.
*Belgians, and you had no problem interfering in other foreign affairs such as the uprising in Egypt, bin laden, and Moammar Gaddafi.
ReplyDeleteI agree, the Belgiums did start the entire Genocide by assigning each Hutu and each Tutsi I.D. cards.
