Closing Statement
Personally I believe that the Interhamwe and the Belgium are responsible for the Genocide. I feel that because of the Belgium’s decision to give the Tutsis power over the Hutus, the Hutus decided to rebel and cause a major conflict. In the debate I represented the RPF group with Lindsey, Justin, and Madeline. My group was not accused too much, but we were blamed for some things. I feel we are innocent because we stopped the genocide. While the Interhamwe were killing our people we formed a group to save them. We attacked the Hutu and rescued our people. In the beginning before the Genocide started, the Belgium separated the Hutus from the Tutsis, giving the Tutsis power and causing the Hutus to form the Interhamwe. Once the Belgium gave out identity cards and divided the Rwandans into the Hutus and the Tutsis, they realized that a fight was going to break out so they left not wanting to be involved and started the Genocide. The Belgium started it but the Interhamwe continued it. The Interhamwe turned to machetes and other brutal ways of killing. 800,000 Tutsis were killed and all of them were innocent.
In conclusion, I know that because of the Belgium and the Interhamwe, the Genocide was started and was continued on. I know that the other groups made the Genocide happen, and the Belgium and the Interhamwe are not to blame completely. In the end, all of the groups defended their groups very well and all I have to say is blame the guys with the Waffles, not the RPF.
