Conclusion Statement

I am representing France, during the debate we were accused of training the Interahamwe and allowing our soldiers to help in the killings and rape citizens. We defended ourselves by pointing out that we never trained the Interahamwe to kill, we trained the NRMD to protect their civilians not train the Interahamwe to murder them. The Interahamwe group said themselves that they were not trained or brain washed by us, but by the NRMD forces that persuaded them to “Kill or be killed. The Interahamwe said that they feared the RPF and their own Tutsi neighbors at the expense of their families. We addressed the accusations about the French soldiers raping and killing Tutsi’s which turned out to be an article that was compiled by one Paul Kagame to set up a negative reputation for the French government to gain sympathy.

We blame the NRMD for inciting the genocide by using threats such as the RTLM radio that spread racist propaganda to convince and essentially brainwash the Interahamwe forces into killing their neighbors. We also lay blame to Belgium for setting up a class system to identify the Hutu and Tutsi’s by; this led to tension between the two groups and essentially started the genocide. We believe that both the US and UN could have stepped in and helped by sending in troops. In conclusion, I thought the debate went very well and everyone present equally productive comments.
