.The Interhamwe Luke Green 2nd hour

These are my final statements on my position on the genocide. I represented the Interhamwe for this debate and I think we defended ourselves pretty well for the most part. Throughout the debate we usually tried to attack three specific groups. The MRND, the UN and the French. We believe that these groups were very much at fault during the genocide. First off the MRND were the ones who trained us and also they heavily influenced us into going into battle. Second the UN they were there at the beginning of the genocide but once they lost 10 men they pulled out 90% of their troops and basically let the country suffer. Finally the French they started the MRND which started the Interhamwe so they are very much at fault for this whole thing and they also were suppling weapons so they should be blamed just as much as the people who did the killing. Also for the MRND  they aired radio messages saying to “cut down the tall trees” and it scared us and we did what we had to for the safety of our lives and the lives of our family.

Throughout the debate we also took much criticism. It is true we did do most of the killing, and that is something we regret and we had to deal with a lot throughout the debate. People also asked why we used the weapons we used (machetes). We did this because we did not have the money or the resources to buy guns and explosives. Also people asked us about the scale we killed on and we did admit it was wrong but then we went on the defense and did the best we could.

Overall I thought our group the Interhamwe did very well for this debate we did run over some rough patches but I thought we bounced back very well. I also believe that we did very well on the offense and made groups struggle with finding an answer.
